Batbook of the Week - Batman #40
I have mixed emotions on this issue. One hand, we go to see a peek at how Bruce’s faithfulness to Selina and on another, we have some story that felt a lot like filler. How can I describe this better? It’s like watching Teen Titans GO. There are moments of brilliance but, there are also parts that felt so much like filler. These moments were enjoyable but, I felt like they could have been used towards something else.
There was even a moment where we ended up talking about pets. That tiny speech cloud got me wondering, will we see Jumpa in any comics soon? I’d love to see Jumpa and Wonder Woman team-up some time. We already had the Super Pets together, might as well add a new recruit in the Amazonian Kangaroo.
You may be wondering, why don’t I get to the dirt? Because, I want you to read it for yourselves. There is a lot of talk about commitment and, the sacrifices that people make in relationships. All I could say is...you’ll want a Gentle Man Mini-Series after this.
Moving on towards the art, Joëlle Jones & Jordie Bellaire are amazing as usual. My only gripe would be the inconsistencies in Wonder Woman's height. She’s always been taller than Bruce or, at the same level. It’s been inconsistent in the Batman Book. I can forgive them for it, because of the bi-weekly schedule. Designs get lost in the mix.
Should you buy this book? Definitely. It’s going to bring emotions right on time for Valentine’s and frustrate you like every relationship does.
