Title: Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na...DATE NIGHT!
INTRO:
After the amazing Batman Annual #2, DC Comics begins a new era with the removal of the Rebirth Banner and the introduction of the DC Universe Corner Box. Scott Snyder has hinted that this is more than just a vanity change. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
I’ll have to keep this review short and sweet as there’s not much to talk about. We probably don’t even need to set up a spoiler tag because most of the book was just leading to the adorable last page.
STORY:
Here we go...
Lois and Selina are both trying to convince their partners to go on a double date while Bruce and Clark are trying to do their own superhero things like research mysteries and save railroads.
In typical superhero fashion, Bruce & Clark make up excuses as to why their partners should not meet each other. Selina & Lois realize this and, they help their partners see the real reason why they don’t want them to meet each other. What could be their distraction in order to avoid the dreaded double date?
Bruce & Selina are investigating a chemical transport case while Lois & Clark are busy with a railroad case. That’s it. All of this leads to a bunch of back & forth conversations between Bruce & Selina and Lois & Clark, respectively.
A very interesting set of panels appear, towards the end, where each guy is talking about why the other guy is better and, we get the most adorable meeting, since the reunion of the Super Pets on Super-Sons Annual last week. Some random D-List Villains, I assume, are whooped by Batman & Superman, and...it’s Double Date Time!.
This issue does not have a lot of action but, it’s hinted that something sinister is occurring that connects those D-List Villains to the overall mystery of this story arc..
ART:
The Manns, Bellaire and, Cowles kept things simple and I like it. We need a break after the breathtaking designs of the Annual Special.Nothing really stood out but, it had to be this way, because the more detailed art is most likely waiting in the next issue.
OVERALL GRADE: 8/10
They could have done more with the story & art but, we all know that this issue was written just to set up the long-awaited Double Date between BatCat and, Lois & Clark. You know what the best part is? We don’t have to wait very long to see what happens next!
Thank goodness for bi-weekly issues.
