Luck of the Irish -- Jonathan Rice: TDKPH Artist of the Month
“You don’t have to make it big, but you do have to make a big impact.”
- Jaime McCall, Living the High Life Without Drinking the Champagne
Jonathan Rice was born to be part of the animation industry. Not only was he born in it, but he also grew up in the animation studio where Scooby-Doo, Dexter’s Lab, and Fantastic Max, just to name a few, were produced. At a young age, he never thought of working for the animation industry. It was until the death of his father that inspired him to carve his way into the industry.
Born to a legend in animation, Jonathan did not use his name as a “ticket” to grab opportunities. He worked hard and tried to learn from his fellow artists. He would constantly post his artwork in The Dark Knight Ph and ask established artists like JC Fabul, Patty Arroyo, and Peejay Catacutan for art reviews.
With just a few months of practice and perseverance, Jonathan became one of the loved artists in the group. His cartoony take on comicbook characters together with his vibrant use of colors makes his art style unique and refreshing.
But it wasn’t all comicbook characters from the start. Before venturing to drawing comicbook characters, Jonathan was already great at drawing cartoon characters. It was his affinity towards The Joker and Harley Quinn that eventually lead him to draw more characters from the comicbook universe. And yes, those are the two characters that he loves to draw.
Out of his generosity, Jonathan donated 11 pin-up artwork of different characters from Batman’s rogue gallery. In order to win one, all you have to do is to share this post on your Facebook wall, tag at least 3 of your friends, and hastag “#TDKPHaotmRICE”. Goodluck! Sometime in June, TDKPH will release to the public playing cards featuring Jonathan's pin-up artwork. You can buy these at an affordable price and royalties will be sent to Jonathan.
Now working in Dublin, Ireland for Boulder Media, we couldn’t be any happier for Jonathan. Also, Jonathan is about to become a father. Things are really looking up for this young talented fella living in Ireland and drinking all the booze!
