Why so Serious?: Dennis Castor--TDKPH Cosplayer of the Month
Cosplaying is not an easy hobby. You have to factor in budget constraints and scarce materials. Surely it doesn't even help that some people look down on the hobby. Starting this month, The Dark Knight Philippines will take the initiative to feature cosplayers in the Philippine community and give them enough exposure for people to understand the fandom.
Have you guys seen Greg Capullo's Joker during Asia Pop Comic Convention 2016? If not, here's your luck! We'll be featuring one of the best Jokers that we've seen during the event--Dennis Castor!
Dennis Castor had an amazing childhood. He loved watching Adam West's Batman TV series, The New Adventures of Batman, and Movie adaptations of comicbook stories. Dennis mostly collects X-men comicbooks but he also have a wide range of comics from DC Comics and Marvel. His favorite DC character is Batman and his favorite villain is... yes, you've guessed correctly, The Joker!
He used to dress up even before he knew there was a thing called "cosplay". Often, he would make capes and swords out of curtains and anything sturdy, respectively. The first time he dressed up for a con was during Hero TV Best of Anime 2010 event. Since then, he fell in love with the hobby.
He dressed up as Tony Stark engineering his propulsion units for his suit. He got his inspiration from the aluminum shop their family used to own in Orani, Bataan--hence, he had a lot of materials to work with back then.
Dennis' dedication to the hobby is something worth mentioning. He's not in it for the fame or money. His goal in this hobby is to bring his favorite characters to life. Just imagine, this guy travels from Bataan! He travels three to fours hours just to play the role of his favorite comicbook characters. Dennis could care less about the cosplay politics and the prize money. He just loves representing the characters he grew up with.
One thing that separates Dennis from the rest of the cosplayers is that... well... nothing. Dennis doesn't want to be different in the sense that he's part of the cosplay community. He joins cosplay events not to earn money but to be with people who share the same interests with him. The cosplay community is a place he calls his home.
