The Dark Knight Returns - An Epic Fan film by Wyatt Weed
The Dark Knight Returns is one of the most iconic comicbooks in history. Undeniably, it changed the landscape of comicbook storytelling during the 80's by reviving gothic and serious tones and integrating it back into comicbooks. Wyatt Weed, directed a live-action film that adapted Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns #1. If you haven't seen the fan-film, you can check it out here!
At the outset, the indie-film gives you a vibe of Weed's take on TDKR. He used natural sunlight for some of his scenes which lost the dark tones of the comicbook. However, his use of light made the film better. I know the Batman (especially Miller's Batman) is supposed to be dark and scary, but the use of natural light made me appreciate the cinematography. In other words, the comicbook didn't provide any attention to details like what Weed did. In the film, you get to see building structures with great details, you get to see the Wayne Manor and the texture of the paint on the walls, and so on.
I love how Weed is accurate with the Batman suit. I had problems with the animated movie that DC released primarily because they used the black and grey suit throughout the entire film. But, I'm very thankful that Weed did not make the same mistake. AND GODDAMN the suit looks good! Kudos to the costume team.
Overall, for an indie/fan-film, Wyatt Weed's take on The Dark Knight Returns did not disappoint. To be frank about it, the movie was better than what I expected. I would definitely recommend this to my fellow Bat-bretheren.
9/10 Goddamn Batarangs for me.
Ow and before I forget, I never imagined Carrie Kelley to be this pretty. I'm not complaining, but I would definitely want to see more screentime from her. hehe
