DKIII Comes Back with a Heavy Punch After Months of Delay
Dark Knight III: The Master Race #6
Spoiler-free comic book review
Its been months since issue #5 has been published and Frank Miller's slow-paced story telling hasn't helped pacify the clamor for the new issue. Needless to say, the cover price is hefty for comicbook fans.
I'm a BIG fan of Frank Miller and it pains me to b**** out about his work. From 1-5, he hasn't been consistent with the pace of the story. From a series that was originally set for 8 issues, I wasn't able to grasp the real conflict of the story after reading issues 1-5.
Despite all that, DKIII #6 made me fall in love with the series all over again. Miller's latest installment in the Dark Knight III franchise is nothing less than spectacular.
Let me start with Andy Kubert's pencils. I'm also a Kubert fan (no, not just Andy, but the whole Kubert family) so believe me when I say that his pencils on the series aren't exactly his. Frank Miller drafts the interiors and Andy Kubert edits it. I've said this over and over again but Kubert's panel transitions is the best in the business. Reading the series felt like watching a movie with great cinematography.
Story-wise, i think DKIII #6 is the best, by far. With three issues left in the series, everything has started to fall in the right places. From issues 1-5, Miller was trying to set something up. And in issue 6, we finally get to see things unfold. The end of the issue is a beautiful twist. I would liken it to a perfect cooked steak. Miller marinated it just right and cooked it to perfection under low flame. It took time for him to reveal the bigger picture, but it's all worth the wait.
Like I said, the end is a real shocker. It would be a sin for someone to spoil it. Satan already made a special place in hell for those who would do such a thing.
The mini-comicbook attached inside the book felt like it wasn't connected to the other mini-comicbooks. However, it felt like Miller is setting up another story for a future series--which is actually fine by me.
